How Can Polar Bears Swim In Ice Cold Water?

Today in Science we asked the question: "How can polar bears swim in such cold water?" Here is what we did to investigate our question.

First - We put our hands in ice water. We did not keep them in long because it was TOO cold for us. We think Polar Bears would have liked it!

We thought that Polar Bears could keep warm because they have fur but we learned it is because they ........

have fat to keep them warm.

We wrapped our fingers in lard and when we put them back in the water we didnt get cold! We think all animals that live in really cold water must have lots of fat to keep them warm.
